This Saturday, November 22, the Sts. Constantine and Helena resort complex will host the 57th edition of the “Akademik” Orienteering Cup. The area around the “Flagman” hotel has been selected as the start–finish zone, where dozens of enthusiasts and professionals in the sport are expected to gather.
The event is organized jointly by the “Akademik” Orienteering Sports Club and the “Akademik” Sports Tourism Association, with the support of the Municipality of Varna. The race will start at 11:30 a.m., and the awards ceremony and official closing are scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
Participants will compete in various age categories—from the youngest at 10 years old to veterans over 70—as well as in an open class. The course lengths are designed to challenge everyone, ranging from 800 meters for the youngest competitors to 5,500 meters for the most experienced orienteers.
Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each individual category, while the best performers in the overall ranking will receive trophies. The special “Valeri Ivanov” prize will be presented to the winner in the M55 age group.
The chief judge of the competition will be Dimitar Kalendzhiev—one of the most respected figures in Bulgarian orienteering.
