From 28 September to 3 October, the Sts Constantine and Helena resort will host the Varna Open – an international tournament on the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) calendar.
This year’s edition is a special one – the Varna Open is being held for the 10th consecutive year, and throughout all these years the tournament has been inextricably linked with the resort of Sts Constantine and Helena. This year, the competition will take place at the newly built tennis complex next to the ‘Primorski’ Shopping Centre – Grand Court Tennis Club.
120 professional female tennis players battling for a place in the main draw
There is considerable interest in this anniversary edition – over 120 professional female tennis players have entered, 60 of whom will secure a place in the tournament draw.
The top-seeded player is a representative of Brazil, who is ranked No. 360 in the world. Alongside the international participants, the Varna Open will also give young Bulgarian tennis players the opportunity to compete on home soil and earn valuable points for the world rankings.
Indeed, supporting the development of Bulgarian tennis and creating opportunities for our young players are among the tournament’s main objectives.
10 years of the Varna Open
The Varna Open is organised by Super Sport Tennis Club in partnership with Varna City Council and the Bulgarian Tennis Federation.
The umpire team for this anniversary edition will be led by the Romanian Vlad Dumitreanu, who will be serving as Supervisor of the Varna Open for the second time.
Admission to the tournament is free, and all tennis fans are welcome to watch the matches between professional players from Bulgaria and around the world live.
